The latest cracking release on Bob Stanley's Measured Mile label pairs two long lost sides from Bobbie Gentry's brief stay with Warner Brothers in the 1970s. Thunder in the Afternoon (as played out by the formidable Bill Brewster) and the equally sultry Slow Cookin' match Gentry's smoky voice to essential mellow '70s grooves.
It sounds like the cream of the west coast playing behind her, but both of these recordings are from sessions that are almost entirely unreleased, so we can't be sure.
