Are 78 RPM records the next format to make a comeback? For the first half of the 20th Century, shellac 78s were the dominant music format. Treasures Untold: A Modern 78 RPM Reader features deep-dive writing from collectors ranging in age from 14 to 87, exploring this mind-blowing musical world and the passions that drive it.
Included in this special numbered book edition is an exclusive CD featuring contemporary artists performing songs from the 78s era : Eden & Johns East River String Band (feat. Eli Smith & R. Crumb), Gwenifer Raymond, Muireann Bradley, Luther Dickinson, Down Hill Strugglers, Kevin Barker, Michael Hurley, Billy Childish, Devon Flaherty and William Tyler
Written contributions come from musicians, ethnomusicologists, producers, archivists, collectors and dealers. The CD contains 10 tracks, eight of which were recorded expressly for this project. The other two have never been on CD.
